The BRAMS viewer
The BRAMS data viewer is an online tool that allows BRAMS users to visualize spectrograms of data archived at BIRA-IASB.
By default, the spectrograms are centered on the frequency of the beacon and show a frequency range of 200 Hz.
Please have a look at how to use the BRAMS data Viewer below before using it for the first time.
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Select Stations
Check the box next to the station(s) you want to visualize spectrograms from.
You can select one or multiple stations. -
Select a date & time
Select the date and time you want to view spectrograms for. -
Submit Request
Click the "Submit" button.
Selected data appears below with the files available for that specific hour/date (e.g. 2024-08-05 16:00).
The spectrograms at a given time are presented vertically if you selected several stations. They appear horizontally for consecutive spectrograms for a given station.
If you click on one spectrogram, a larger version appears as well as a number of buttons in the bottom middle part of the screen :
- the "" button allows the user to loop through other spectrograms from the same station (but always within the hour you have initially selected).
- the "" button allows the user to loop through other spectrograms from the same station (but always within the hour you have initially selected).
- the "WAV" button allows the user to save the corresponding WAV file.
- the "PNG" button allows the user to save the spectrogram itself (PNG format).
- the "" button allows the user to loop through spectrograms of other stations at a given time (but only for those stations you have initially selected).
- the "" button allows the user to loop through spectrograms of other stations at a given time (but only for those stations you have initially selected).
The BRAMS data availability tool
This is an online tool that allows BRAMS users to check the availability of BRAMS data during a selected period and for selected BRAMS stations.
Please have a look at how to use the BRAMS data availability tool below before using it for the first time.
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Select Stations
Check the box next to the station(s).
You can select one or multiple stations. -
Select a date interval
Select the period for which you want to check the availability of the BRAMS data. -
Submit Request
Click the "Submit" button.
Results appear as colored bars.
The color code for the bars uses 5 different colors according to the percentage of data available :
- green: 100% available
- light blue: 67% < availability < 100%
- yellow: 34% < availability <= 67%
- pink: 0% < availability <= 34%
- red : no data available
If you select only a few days of data (e.g. from 2024-07-09 to 2024-07-12) the bars show you the availability of data using a simpler color code : red for no data and green for available data.

The BRAMS downloader
This is an online tool that allows BRAMS users to download a set of spectrograms (in PNG format) or data files (in WAV format) for a date interval and for selected BRAMS stations.
Please have a look at how to use the BRAMS downloader below before using it for the first time.
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Select Stations
Check the box next to the station(s) you want to download files from.
You can select one or multiple stations. -
Choose Data Type
Select the type of data you wish to download :- Data (WAV files)
- Spectrograms (PNG files)
-
Set Date Interval
Choose the start date and end date for the data you need.
This defines the date range for the files to be downloaded.
Please note that the minimum data period to be downloaded is one day (24 hours). -
Submit Request
Click the "Submit" button to initiate the download process.
A progress bar will appear for each station and date combination, indicating the status of the file transfer.
File Organization
Files are organized and zipped by station and day.
You will receive a separate ZIP archive for each station/day/type combination you requested.
For example, if you request data files from the Bilzen station for the 3rd of May 2023, you will receive a ZIP archive containing a set of 288 WAV files (with a duration of 5 minutes).
This archive will be named : RAD_BEDOUR_20230503_0000_BEBILZ_SYS001.zip
If you request spectrograms from the Dinant station from the 21st of January 2024 until the 23rd of January 2024, you will receive 2 ZIP archives, each containing 288 PNG files.
These archives will be named :
- RAD_BEDOUR_20240121_0000_BEDINA_SYS001_spectrograms.zip
- RAD_BEDOUR_20240122_0000_BEDINA_SYS001_spectrograms.zip
